Be Careful What You Post Online
In my opinion, the Internet is among the top five most important inventions of all time (right up there with the wheel, the light bulb, and power screwdrivers). But seriously, think about how much time businesses save by having access to so much information right on the top of their desks. 
And websites for personal use, such as ClassMates.com in the U.S. and FriendsReunited.com in Europe, allow people to get in touch with old friends. Sounds like a good thing – but there’s a danger.
Gordon Cherrington of London-based Media Contacts said: “People should think carefully what they say about employers - past and present - and themselves in any online public domain.”
The reason? Some employers are using these websites to check out applicants and current employees. Not only are job offers being withdrawn, some people are being terminated.
Example: One person boasted online to former classmates that he got his current job by lying though his teeth during the interview and on his resume. This person was terminated after these comments were discovered.
Another had a job offer withdrawn when she posted comments to friends that she planned to be in town only for a few months.
So beware what you post – everything you do on the Internet can be made public, and the world is watching. |
